“Folk Festivities” Programme

What the programme includes

The programme is easy to adapt: it can emphasise fun and games or take a more traditional ethnographic approach.

• Folk performances: traditional songs, chastushka couplets, and playful refrains.
• Audience participation: circle dances, traditional games, competitions, and simple ritual sketches.
• Theatrical presentation: skomorokh jesters, costumed performers, and characters from folk celebrations lead the programme and involve the guests.
• Traditional life and customs: stylised props and costumes, folk-inspired photo areas, and, if desired, short explanations of the meaning behind the rituals.

Format options

Different line-ups are available: an ensemble, a group of performers with skomorokh characters, musicians playing balalaika, garmon, spoons, and other instruments, or a performance with recorded accompaniment.

• Short segment, 20–30 minutes — for an opening or closing, background entertainment, or an activity zone at a festival.
• Medium programme, 1 hour — a balanced combination of performances and interactive activities.
• Full festivities, 1.5–2 hours with breaks — several changing sections alternating between performances and guest participation, mini-quests, or activity “stations”.
